Gymnos from A to Z

Gymnocalycium berchtii Neuhuber

A sunny site in purely mineral substrate will do the plants good. They remain flat and develop a nice frosted greyish black epidermis. Water should be used more sparingly compared to other members of the genus.
The genus blooms amply and seed retrieval is unproblematic.
During winter cool temperatures and complete aridity are advisable. The plants revert into the ground.
Propagation by the easily germinable seed is no problem, though the plants do not grow very fast. My specimen have a diameter of 4 cm after 10 years.
