Gymnos from A to Z

Gymnocalycium paediophilum Schütz ex F. Ritter

The species comes from an area with an average minimum temperature of about 19°C and a rainfall of 430 mm in the annual mean. Night frost is an absolute exception. During winter, temperatures around 10°C combined with completely dry substrate have been tried and tested with me. Lower temperatures are tolerated over short periods of time, but often lead to loss of roots.
In the growing season the plants can get plenty of water and a semi-shady spot is favourable. If the plants are shooting well a sunny location does not hurt - the plants then develop very long thorns.
Propagation is not a problem with older specimen, since plenty of sprouts are developed. Growing from the well germinable seed is not a problem.
