Gymnocalycium anisitsii

G. anisitsii has been discovered by Prof. Anisits. He sent the first couple of plants to Europe. They soon disappeared from the collections, since most of them never established germinative seeds. In 1964, G. anisitsii has been rediscovered by A.M. Friedrich.

We found quite a lot of plants near the city of Concepcion/Paraguay. G. anisitsii grows under the protection of low bushes, the premises are open. We saw plants which had 15 cm in diameter and 8 cm in height. G. anisitsii is often found in large groups and the genus is extremely variable. On 13th of October, 2001 many plants were in bloom. We moreover found Echinopsis rhodotricha and Opuntia paraguayensis in this habitat.
