Frailea friedrichii Bunining & Moser

This genus was discovered on 18th of May 1969 by A. M. Friedrich, who then sent plants to G. Moser in Austria. It was first described by Bunining & Moser in the magazine Succulenta 1971. Frailea friedrichii grows between plates of sandstone, often in the umbrage of small bushes and shrubs. We found plants in three locations (Cordillera de los Altos, Paraguay) accompanied by Frailea cataphracta var. duchii, Notocactus ottonis var. and Gymnocalycium paraguayense. The genus is cleistogamous, the colour of the flower is yellow.
